Electric Blue Lobster
The Electric Blue Lobster is a great addition to any tank if you do not have fish in it already. They are opportunists and will go after anything that moves and eat what ever will fit in their mouth. They are a beautiful color blue and can add a conversation piece to you planted tank.
Tank Requirements
They should be kept in a 10 gallon tank or larger. I do not recommend more than one or two in a tank together unless you have plenty of hiding spaces for them. I use cut up PVC and or small clay pots to give them the refuge they seek to feel the most comfortable.
Breeding
Sexual maturity is reached around 6 to 8 months of age. Adult males are slightly larger than females, have longer and narrower claws and have reproductive appendages on the ventral side at the base of the tail. Once the Female is breed she can hold onto the sperm for long periods of time until she feels it is safe to extract her eggs. At which point they will hatch, usually within 20 to 30 days of extraction. Clutches range from fifty to several hundred 2mm black eggs.
Feeding
Crayfish are scavengers & will eat whatever they find. I supplement their diet with several types of commercially available foods commonly found at most pet stores. I use algae wafers or pellets that are high in spirulina. To mix things up a bit I will give them some fresh vegetables from time to time such as, spinach, peas, or zuccinni. I blanch the spinach prior to feeding the lobsters this allows the greens to sink to the bottom where the lobsters can get a hold of them.
